Discovering the Real Cost of Olympic Gold with Data Visualization

Throwing money at an opportunity (like throwing money at a problem) is not always a good idea. In fact, it can be reckless, wasteful, and, most of all, unproductive. This is a lesson that national Olympics committees around the world are learning. Since the first modern games in 1896, the rise and fall of a country’s medal count hasn’t necessarily correlated with its long and expensive road to Olympic glory. After analyzing medal rankings and comparing them to national GDP and investment, it becomes clear that many national committees are overspending with little gold-worthy outcomes. (more…)

Big Data, Dataviz, and the Amazon River Basin: How SAP BusinessObjects Lumira Is Making a Difference
