Day one was an eventful day for me personally, having worked with many colleagues to organize the EPM presentations for the event. A  number of SAP customers informed, educated, and fascinated us with their accounts of how SAP solutions for EPM created significant business impact and benefits for their organizations, their teams, and even their environment.

Danone’s presentation was a personal favorite because I’m familiar with the product it uses. Danone gave a terrific account of how they use SAP Profitability and Cost Management  to manage the carbon impact of their products. Using the information generated, they reduced their carbon water footprint by an incredible 30 percent.

Surely, they’re a shining light for sustainability in their industry and, for that matter, many others. The analysts certainly think so. Danone won a 2012 Ventana Research Leadership and Technology Innovation Award in the area of sustainability. SAP’s own Ivo Bauermann, Global Vice President, Center of Excellence EPM and Finance, was delighted to present the award to Danone’s representatives, Laura Palmeiro and Richard Catteloin.

Also in the broadcast center with Danone were Chris Dinkel, from Deloitte, and Kaan Aktolug, from UNO, a leading Turkish bakery. Dinkel talked about the impact of new innovations in EPM.  Aktolug explained how UNO’s implementation of SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, powered by SAP HANA is driving incredible speed in the generation of planning reports and budgets. Aktolug later expanded on this subject in his main stage presentation in the Analytics campus theatre.

The “hot” news for the day was the formal release to a European audience of the new SAP Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) OnDemand solutions, #EPMOD, shown in the first presentation of the day. These exciting new SAP solutions for EPM are being showcased, along with other solutions, at the EPM demo stations on the Analytics campus at SAPPHIRENOW Madrid. If you’re at the show please stop by for a demo!

Now onward to day two with presentations from BG Group and Nestle among others. More to come on these later.
