The analytics campus on SAPPHIRE day two was a buzz of activity with many sessions packed to the rafters. The enterprise performance management (EPM) demo stations were busy throughout the day with customers wanting to see not only the newest solutions like SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, powered by SAP HANA and SAP EPM OnDemand, but also our longer established solutions like SAP Profitability and Cost Management and SAP Financial Consolidation.

Our consolidation solutions continue to peak people’s interest. Elizabeth Milne ran a demo theatre session on the financial close (looking across close and disclosure processes) that drew a massive crowd – literally “standing room only”. My take on this? While there’s definitely an excitement and buzz around our new EPM solutions like cloud, mobility, and in-memory, there’s still a deep-rooted interest from customers in the more traditional areas of EPM processes, such as consolidations, planning, and profitability.

Two terrific EPM customer presentations took place on day two.  Nestle talked about their experiences implementing and using SAP Profitability and Cost Management, and BG Group shared a terrific story about their global implementation of SAP Business Planning and Consolidation.

I love hearing customer stories like these – quite different in their applications and usage requirements, but both equally pleased with the substantial business benefits that SAP solutions bring to their organizations.

On to Day Three

Day three, the final day of the event, has begun and I’m looking forward to more EPM sessions. This morning we had a customer panel discussion on the subject of Next Generation Planning, where my colleague David Ormerod spoke with three panellists including representatives of BG Group, Premier Foods, and Accenture. Later in the day, there are a couple of financial consolidation sessions. At 2 p.m. CET, James Fisher presents in a broadcast center session followed later by our final EPM customer story from Altarea Cogedim. Even if you haven’t been able to attend these sessions at SAPPHIRENOW, please do make sure to watch the playbacks on the SAPPHIRENOW website.
