Jayne Landry, Global VP & GM, Business Intelligence at SAP

42-47254170-LumiraEarlier in the summer, I published a blog post on the convergence of the SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence (BI) portfolio. The big question I’ve received is, “What’s next?” On the September 9th #askSAP community webcast, we’ll dive into the details of the BI portfolio convergence topic and provide additional information for the how and when this will happen. We’ll also share more information on the SAP technology platform strategy and cover the topic of Trusted Data Discovery, bringing together enterprise BI, and agile visualization.

This webcast is a fantastic opportunity to hear more and engage with SAP on this topic. In this post, I’d like to share a few additional highlights of the SAP BI strategy and direction of the platform. Hopefully, this will give you another compelling reason to attend the upcoming webcast to hear more.

Innovation Without Disruption

Our goal is to provide SAP customers with options to continue enjoying innovations from SAP without disruption to their existing landscape while optimizing their total cost of ownership. BI from SAP has been successful because it’s open and agnostic and has support for over 140 data sources, more than ever before.

We take pride in our ability to be open and support multiple data sources. In the webcast, you’ll learn more about how SAP HANA fits in our overall strategy and why. Today, SAP HANA allows organizations to achieve a level of scale and performance that couldn’t be reached in the past. We’re looking at how we can leverage SAP HANA not only as a data layer but also as an engine.

Protecting Investments in the SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform

Many SAP customers have deployed the SAP BusinessObjects BI platform through their organization to support enterprise BI projects and give users the power to engage with all their data, on any device, across any platform, in real time. In the future, we plan to deliver innovations that will benefit all customers invested in the BI platform in order to reflect the changing reality of technology and protect their investments.

We aim to focus on customer value and facilitate the adoption of these innovations without disruption to existing landscapes, while staying in alignment with previous investments and optimizing the total cost of ownership.

Bringing Enterprise BI and Agile Visualization Together with Trusted Data Discovery

One of the gaps we’ve seen in the market is a rise of data discovery solutions independent of an enterprise BI solution. We see an opportunity to bring agile visualization and enterprise BI together.

Trusted data discovery is a key area that we intend to further innovate with new options for SAP customers to share trusted content. We plan for SAP Lumira documents to become first-class citizens in the SAP BusinessObjects BI platform, and for all the popular strengths of the platform (like security, auditing, scheduling, and governance) to apply to these documents.

Moving forward, we plan to offer additional deployment options for SAP Lumira Server. A key part of this plan is to deliver SAP Lumira Server on the SAP BusinessObjects BI platform so that customers can run SAP Lumira Server at a similar total cost of ownership to other SAP BusinessObjects BI products on the platform (for example, on commodity hardware) and tightly integrated with the platform.
