SAP Sapphire Now 2012 Orlando, FloridaWith Financials2015 approaching it’s important to understand that “Plan Simpler” is a no longer a want or wish, but a reality available to all. The issues that made planning a challenge for the enterprise in the past are just that, a thing of the past, and it’s now time to look to the future.

As you prepare to attend the Financials2015 event in Las Vegas, I thought that I’d take the opportunity to give you some ideas of what sessions to look for if planning for SAPinsider (or a desire to Plan Simpler) is one of your objectives.

Recent innovations in SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, version for SAP NetWeaver, powered by SAP HANA have the potential to offer instant benefits to the office of the CFO and the enterprise in general. It’s important to have a thorough understanding of what these benefits might mean to you and your organization, especially to make an informed choice regarding which to deploy and when. Here are a few things to look out for:

  1. Planning Powered by the In-Memory SAP HANA Platform

With SAP HANA as the underlying platform supporting planning, budgeting and forecasting, customers can plan on greater amounts of detail with unlimited flexibility. This ensures larger amounts of dimensions and data points to plan on and analyze. Additionally, with the added granularity, customers can deploy heavy calculations to simulate real-world scenarios with absolutely no restrictions. No longer is there a compromise on how companies deploy planning solutions as they can clearly emulate the real world with instant results!

The next frontier in planning tools is bringing them closer to the underlying ERP system(s) they are supporting. Too often, customers make the mistake of deploying what they believe is best of breed, but how can you possibly support your business when time is wasted bringing data from your ERP to your planning tool through archaic ETL processes?

In this day and age, SAP Simple Finance allows SAP Business Planning and Consolidation to be a direct part of SAP Business Suite, enabling a world where as transactions hit your ERP tables, they can be viewed and aggregated in the planning tool instantly – allowing real-time decisions to drive the business.

I’ll be talking about SAP HANA and SAP Simple Finance in the presentation sessions I’ll be delivering at the SAPinsider event, so please join me if you can.

  1. It’s Time to Go Mobile!

I strongly believe the most underrated area of planning is the unwired world, because it’s now available!  You’ll see what I mean if you attend the SAP EPM Unwired demo session at the SAPinsider event, and see how planning results can be viewed and collaborated upon (inputs) on an iPad device. Planning is no longer restricted to a desktop/laptop and within the confines of the four walls – now it’s anytime and anyplace.

  1. Planning a Move to the Cloud?

There’s an increasing trend for finance solutions to be hosted in a cloud environment, and SAP solutions for enterprise performance management are no exception. Planning tools such as SAP Business Planning and Consolidation can now be deployed on the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud. Finance is no longer tied to the IT department and the capital investments required to deploy new solutions, rather they can be deployed in the cloud with all the innovations listed above yet preserving the links to the underlying on-premise system .

Of course, for new deployments there’s a new cloud-based planning solutions to consider also – SAP Cloud for Planning – as a part of an SAP planning landscape.

As you can see there’s a lot going on in the world of Planning, which should really help you to Plan Simpler. I look forward to addressing these topics in Las Vegas and hope to see you there!
