GRC2016_viennaGRC2016 in Vienna – It’s almost here, and I can hardly wait!  Sure, I’ve never seen Vienna, and I hear it is beautiful, historic, musical, and even magical.  Am I excited to be booked for a visit at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna before the conference?  Yes, definitely.  But, believe it or not, I am most excited to be attending the GRC SAPinsider event.  Read more to find out why and get my tips on some potential topics of interest.

Attend the SAP Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) Customer Advisory Council Meeting

Starting Sunday, June 19, (usually it’s a Monday) pre-conference sessions begin and we’re hosting the Customer Advisory Council meeting, (details forthcoming). It’s a great time to kick-off the conference by meeting a variety of customers doing great things with GRC.

Our customers are always generous in sharing information with other customers (and with us at SAP).  So if you have a topic of interest, don’t hesitate to bring it up or even ask for help.  Time and time again, we hear from those attending that the most interesting part of the conference is networking and hearing what other customers are doing.  It is also a great time to start your networking at this meeting.

By the way, if you are a customer and somehow we missed sending you an invitation, please contact me directly at

Attend Sessions June 20 – 22

Based on what went on in Las Vegas at GRC2016 (no “what goes on in Vegas stays in Vegas” here!), some hot topics are well represented:

  • Cybersecurity: Starting with a Sunday afternoon jumpstart, there are sessions dealing with SAP GRC solutions for cybersecurity as well as more general cyber risk and governance, and even forensics topics.  Take a look at the GRC2016 brochure.
  • Continuous control monitoring (CCM): Always a favorite topic of mine, interest in doing more with CCM was a topic of extreme interest among our SAP customers in Las Vegas. You can do your part to help eradicate “CCMophobia” by attending some of these sessions.
  • Reporting and analytics for GRC: We all know that it’s not just about what you put into a system—it’s what you get out of it. Our SAP solutions for governance, risk, and compliance started including free (yes, free!) licenses for more SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence solutions for use with GRC products.  Check out the Sunday morning jumpstart or any of the variety of sessions focused on reporting alternatives.

Is There More?

  • Customer-led sessions: See customers like Philips, BP, Omega Pharma, and more at customer sessions and panels.  I’m sure we can count on our customers to come prepared with their best case studies and tips to share.
  • Networking sessions: New this year, there will be scheduled informal networking sessions on the show floor where participants can chat with a speaker about a specific topic. Sounds good to me!  (Be sure to join me Tuesday morning if you’re interested in developing a CCM roadmap.)
  • Solution Center (aka “the lab”): Have specific things you’d like to discuss? Problems to solve?  Answers you need?  Just want to talk?  If so, the Solution Center is for you.  Book your appointments with selected SAP GRC specialists, and we’ll be glad to help.  Our customers tell us this is an important highlight of the conference.

Visit the Exhibit Floor

Check out the exhibit floor, and come say hello at the SAP booth.  I find I can learn a lot just from which booths our customers are visiting.  Yes, sometimes it’s for the goodies (can we ever get enough chocolate?) or the chachkas (or enough pink and chartreuse thumb drives?), but it’s good for seeing short demos as well as the latest and greatest applications and technology.

What Do YOU Want to Do?

Of course, this reflects my background and interests, not necessarily yours, but hopefully you get the idea that there is more to do than eating apfelstrudel and walking along the Danube, although that sounds delightful.

…. As always, I’m looking forward to rubbing elbows with so many knowledgeable GRC and other business professionals all in the same place.  But you—what do YOU want to do?
